The successful candidate will perform non-destructive evaluations on trackframes and radiator systems, applying a range of testing methodologies to identify wear, structural issues and defects without causing physical damage to the parts. About the Role: NDT Technician – Flexi Parts Department

We’re currently hiring for the position of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Technician to join our Flexi Parts Department based at our Perth Airport facility. This is a full-time, permanent role operating under a structured 5 days on / 2 days off roster, with 10-hour workdays.

As an NDT Technician, you’ll report directly to the Flexi Parts Supervisor, contributing your technical expertise toward the inspection and analysis of components such as trackframes and radiators. Using non-invasive testing methodologies, your primary objective will be to detect flaws or defects without damaging the integrity of the parts.

Your contributions will be pivotal to ensuring the longevity, safety and performance of critical machinery used across heavy-duty operations – particularly in mining and construction sectors. Although familiarity with CAT products is a plus, it’s not a requirement to be considered for this opportunity.

Our Flexi Parts & Mining Services (FPMS) division operates as a key pillar of WesTrac’s aftermarket support. This team specializes in:

  • Complete powertrain overhauls

  • Disassembly and reassembly of complex machinery

  • Radiator rebuilding and restoration services

  • Undercarriage system repairs

As a department, FPMS focuses on optimizing the lifecycle of heavy equipment through advanced diagnostics, meticulous workmanship and industry-best practices. If you’re passionate about contributing to projects that require high-precision inspections and contribute directly to operational safety and performance, this is the ideal role for you.

Work Schedule

  • Roster: 5 days on, 2 days off
  • Shift Type: Day shift
  • Hours per Day: 10 hours

Core Responsibilities in This Role

As an NDT Technician in the Flexi Parts team, your day-to-day tasks will revolve around the following key duties:

  • Executing Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) procedures – including Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Penetrant Testing (PT) and Ultrasonic Testing (UT) – primarily on trackframes and radiators.

  • Conducting thorough inspections to identify material flaws, fatigue or structural weaknesses without causing damage to the parts.

  • Ensuring workplace safety protocols are rigorously followed, including proactive hazard assessment and the use of protective equipment.

  • Managing your workload with a high degree of organization, ensuring deadlines are met without compromising quality.

  • Communicating effectively with peers, supervisors and clients to relay findings and contribute to continuous improvement.

  • Striving for customer satisfaction by maintaining quality control standards and responding professionally to feedback or queries.

Required Qualifications and Technical Experience

Candidates for this role must possess the following certifications and skills:

Mandatory:

  • AINDT / PCN / ISO 9712 Level 2 Certification in MT (Magnetic Testing), PT (Penetrant Testing) and UT (Ultrasonic Testing) – recognized in Australia.

  • Valid Forklift Licence

  • Rigging and Dogging certifications

  • Prior experience working with Caterpillar components or within a similar industrial environment
