Key Responsibilities
Hazard Identification:

- Recognizes potentially dangerous working conditions and identifies unsafe actions taken by employees and subcontractors.
- Engages in safety management processes and collaborates closely with project personnel to maintain a safe environment.
Risk Control Measures:

- Conducts detailed research and reviews to recommend suitable safety controls.
- Ensures that recommended corrective measures are thoroughly implemented.
Safety Guidance:
-
- Provides expert advice to managers regarding safety concerns, ensuring activities adhere to corporate, client and regulatory standards.
Health and Safety Plans:
-
- Develops, reviews and approves health and safety strategies for new projects within the assigned unit and region.
- Assigned to projects that range from moderately complex to highly intricate.
Subcontractor Management:

- Conducts evaluations to assess subcontractor capabilities and compatibility with project safety requirements.
- Reviews health and safety submissions from both subcontractors and contractors.
Training Programs:

- Supports corporate initiatives by creating employee safety orientation and craft-specific training programs.
- Implements training plans and monitors their effectiveness.
Incident Management:

- Documents, investigates and reports accidents, safety violations or unsafe practices.
- Conducts or oversees property damage and personal injury investigations, ensuring appropriate follow-up on corrective measures.
- Submits comprehensive reports to health and safety managers and senior leadership.
Performance and Development:

- Provides input on performance evaluations and recommends staff development initiatives.
- Proposes targeted training programs for employees.
Health and Safety Program Administration:

- Manages assigned program elements, including but not limited to:
- Training initiatives.
- Medical surveillance programs.
- Security measures.
- Incident prevention strategies, such as the “Good Catch” program.
- Third-party prequalification processes.

Compensation and Injury Management:

- Assists with workers’ compensation cases and oversees injury management protocols.
Safety Audits and Inspections:

- Conducts area surveillance inspections and air quality testing within assigned units or regions.
- Leads the development and execution of corporate safety audits.
- Participates in external compliance audits evaluating corporate safety programs.
Documentation and Reporting:

- Reviews and ensures the accuracy and completeness of safety-related records and reports.
- Ensures timely submission of documentation following established protocols.
- Implements corrective actions when necessary.
Inspector Collaboration:

- Accompanies health, safety and insurance inspectors on site tours.
Other Duties:

- Takes on additional responsibilities as required to meet project and organizational goals.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
- Certifications:
- Specific certifications may be necessary depending on federal, provincial or contractual requirements.
- Experience:
- Minimum of five years of relevant experience.
- Equivalent experience may be considered in place of a formal degree.
- Travel Requirements:
- Domestic and/or international travel may be required.
- The travel frequency will depend on job duties, workload and project demands, estimated at approximately 10%.
