L Global Forwarding, a division of DHL Group, has a rich history dating back to 1815 when it was established as Danzas in Saint-Louis, Alsace, France. The company was founded by Louis Danzas, who, after serving under Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo, joined a transport enterprise and eventually became a joint owner. Danzas initially secured a mail delivery franchise from Le Havre to New York City in 1846 and expanded its operations by opening a branch in Basel in 1854.

Over the years, the company diversified its services, incorporating air transport between France and England in 1920 and inaugurating its own freight terminal in Paris by 1962.

In 2000, Deutsche Post World Net acquired Danzas, marking a significant expansion in its logistics capabilities. Following the complete acquisition of DHL in 2002, Deutsche Post integrated Danzas, DHL and EuroExpress under the DHL brand, rebranding Danzas as DHL Danzas Air & Ocean. By 2005, the Danzas brand was phased out and the business unit was renamed DHL Global Forwarding/DHL Freight.

This strategic consolidation enabled DHL to offer comprehensive air and ocean freight forwarding services, as well as to undertake major logistics projects under the DHL Industrial Projects brand.

Today, DHL Global Forwarding operates as a key component of DHL Group’s Freight/Forwarding division, providing a wide range of logistics solutions including the transportation of goods by rail, road, air and sea. The division also encompasses DHL Freight, which manages a ground-based freight network covering Europe, Russia and routes into the Middle East.

Headquartered in Bonn, Germany, DHL Group is a publicly traded company with a diversified portfolio in the logistics sector. Your Key Responsibilities

Here’s what you’ll be doing:

Developing a Robust Pipeline

  • Identify, nurture and manage a pipeline of promising business opportunities.
  • Focus on winning new customers, with a particular emphasis on medium to large-sized business accounts.
  • Employ strategic planning and management techniques to effectively handle these accounts and foster long-term relationships.

Customer Relationship Management

  • Act as a trusted advisor to customers, keeping them informed about the evolving logistics landscape.
  • Provide practical solutions to address challenges and adapt to market dynamics.
  • Build trust and rapport with clients by deeply understanding their supply chain requirements.
  • Use your industry expertise to recommend logistics solutions that align with customer needs.

Business Acquisition and Implementation

  • Prospect and secure medium to large-sized customers, ensuring a seamless transition from acquisition to implementation.
  • Manage the onboarding process for new clients, preparing RFI, RFP and RFQ documents to facilitate smooth operational handovers.
  • Ensure all service level agreements (SLAs) and standard operating procedures (SOPs) are met during the customer implementation phase.

Collaboration Across Sales Channels

  • Collaborate with various sales channels within the DPDHL network to provide comprehensive supply chain services.
  • Participate in joint visits with product teams and trade lane specialists to improve customer retention.
  • Share insights and strategies during workshops with clients, offering updated information on regulations and industry innovations.

Leveraging Technology

  • Utilize the DHL Global Forwarding (DGF) CRM tool for detailed reporting and data analysis, ensuring transparency and efficiency in all operations.

Workshops and Education

  • Host customer workshops to share knowledge about DHL’s innovative products and solutions.
  • Stay informed about regulatory changes and share updates with clients to keep them ahead of the curve.

Success in this role requires a combination of technical expertise, interpersonal skills and a commitment to excellence. Here’s what you’ll bring to the table:

Essential Qualifications

  • Proven expertise in Ocean Freight products, with 3 to 5 years of experience in a similar sales role.
  • A strong track record of achieving and exceeding sales key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Demonstrated ability to sell effectively in competitive markets.

  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
  • High levels of self-confidence organizational capability and initiative.
  • A dynamic and enthusiastic attitude, coupled with a strong team spirit.

  • A personal vehicle for customer visits (approximately 80% of the role involves face-to-face interactions).
