DHL Global Forwarding, a division of DHL Group, traces its origins to 1815 when it was established as Danzas in Saint-Louis, Alsace, France. The company was founded by Louis Danzas, who, after serving under Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo, joined a transport enterprise and eventually became a co-owner. Danzas expanded its operations over the years, notably securing a mail delivery franchise from Le Havre to New York City in 1846 and opening a branch in Basel in 1854.

The company embraced air transport in 1920, facilitating services between France and England and further extended its infrastructure by inaugurating its own freight terminal in Paris in 1962.

In 2000, Danzas was acquired by Deutsche Post World Net, marking a significant shift in its corporate trajectory. Following Deutsche Post AG’s complete acquisition of DHL in 2002, Danzas was integrated with DHL and EuroExpress under the unified DHL brand, leading to its rebranding as DHL Danzas Air & Ocean. By 2005, the Danzas brand was phased out and the business unit was renamed DHL Global Forwarding/DHL Freight.

This reorganization culminated in 2006 with the consolidation of Danzas and other ground-based freight subsidiaries into the Global Forwarding, Freight division of DHL Group.

Today, DHL Global Forwarding operates as a key component of DHL Group’s Freight/Forwarding department, offering comprehensive air and ocean freight forwarding services. The division also manages major logistics projects under the DHL Industrial Projects brand. DHL Group, headquartered in Bonn, Germany, is a global leader in the logistics industry, providing a wide range of services including courier, package delivery and express mail.

The group’s extensive network spans over 220 countries and territories, employing more than 600,000 people worldwide.
